In light of reduced budgets the Department are now only making the service available to the children for half of the school year.
A new money saving initiative by the Department of Education and Children will see a significant restructuring to the way aspects of physical education is provided to select Primary Schools.
Over recent years additional funding had been provided to take certain schools to and from the NSC to make use of their facilities.
The schools received the special treatment if they didn’t have a dedicated sports hall or playing field.
In light of reduced budgets the Department are now only making the service available to the children for half of the school year.
For the remainder of the school year alternative arrangements will have to be sought, this could mean walking to nearby schools to make use of their facilities.
The Department have declined to comment on the specific sum that will be saved as a result of the restructuring.
