The Manx missile survived being eliminated from the Tour de France after the mountainous 18th stage which was suited to the world's best climbers.

88 riders including Cav grouped together to try and beat the cut off time, they didn't manage that, however as there was so many of them race organisers allowed them to continue on racing but faced with a 20 point penalty.

The 26 year old now leads the green jersey race by 15 points.
