The Island will be getting roadside cameras that can automatically read a vehicle's number plate later this year.
Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey made the announcement in the House of Keys when he was quizzed on the issue yesterday.
Mr Malarkey said the cameras, which will also be in police cars, will be used to spot untaxed cars.
He said initially they'll undergo trials before a decision's made about using them permanently:
