Coastguards in the East of the Island say their workload rose by around 50 per cent last year.
Douglas Coastguards, based in the Sea Terminal, say 2017 proved to be an extremely busy year.
The coastguard, part of the Department of Infrastructure's Ports Division, says it was called out a total of 74 times in the past 12 months.
It says the calls represent an increase of almost 50 per cent on 2016.
