Douglas lifeboat was called into action last night after reports someone had fallen into the sea from Douglas Promenade.
The boat, along with coastguards, searched from the Palace Hotel to Derby Castle but found nobody.
Just minutes after the search was called off, the RNLI crew was called back into action - when a lone yachtsman got into difficulties 10 miles east of Douglas.
His vessel had to be towed into port after he fell and injured his shoulder.
