Bus driver union rep warns strikes will happen unless issues are resolved

Nearly 80% of the workers voted in favour of strike action; it centres on a dispute over working hours and conditions.

Bus Drivers union representative Steve Salter, has told 3FM that strike action will be unavoidable unless changes to the current system are made soon.

Nearly 80% of the workers voted in favour of strike action; it centres on a dispute over working hours and conditions.

It stems from the changes to the bus timetables, with many bus drivers now not able to make time for required rest breaks and generally feeling overworked.

The Unite regional officer said despite the ballot results industrial action is still weeks away, and he is hopeful in that time a resolution will be reached.

He said the strong support for strike action should act as an ultimatum to the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure, and it’s now upto them to get together and resolves the issues they have.
