Lib Dem foreign affairs spokesman claims the right to self-govern is no longer appropriate
The Lib Dem foreign affairs spokesman has announced that Britain’s relationship with the crown dependencies is to be examined later on this year.
Lord Wallace said that dependencies including the Isle of Man, right to self-govern was no longer appropriate.
He said that places like the Isle Of Man, Jersey and Guernsey were once 'based on horticulture and tourism, compared to finance, as they are today.'
He said that a promise given 800 years ago does not fit with the different circumstances today.
