Plans to link South West Douglas to the town centre with a footpath and cycle way could be advanced following a meeting with island benefactor Albert Gubay.
As a result of the meeting, the Island resident, renowned for being an extremely successful businessman and philanthropist has offered to fund the construction works.
The works would see the construction of a bridge over the River Douglas that would connect with the North Quay, Lake Road as well as a route through the new Quay West development, with a new riverside pathway running alongside the Nunnery estate and Douglas golf course.
The proposal came after Mr Gubay invited Councillor David Christian and Mayor Ritchie McNicholl to his Santon home earlier this year.
Mr Gubay is now having his architects draw up plans for a bridge and central cycle way that could lead onto the Old Castletown Road.
