A drink driver from Ramsey has been banned from the road after crashing his mother's car into a ditch and then lying about who was driving.
28-year-old Timothy Joseph Casemore, of Greenlands Avenue, lost control on St Judes Road in Andreas on March 18th.
He, and his mother, then obstructed the police - both initially telling officers it was his mother who'd been behind the wheel.
At Douglas Courthouse on Tuesday Casemore retracted previous not guilty pleas and admitted both offences.
The court heard he was over twice the legal limit when police eventually uncovered that he'd been the one driving.
Casemore's advocate said he'd had a double Bacardi at a relative's house before the crash but had 'felt fine to drive' adding: "It was a momentary lapse of concentration."
Fining him £1,750, and disqualifying him from driving for three years, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Casemore: "You shouldn't have been anywhere near the wheel of a car."
Casemore must also pay prosecution costs of £400 and remains banned until he's taken and passed an extended driving test and drink drive rehabilitation course.
