Armed police deployed after 'altercation' which left man with head injuries

Armed Police were deployed yesterday after a fight in Douglas left a man with head injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened in and around the area of Upper Dukes Road and St Ninian’s Road around 1am yesterday.

Authorities say the altercation was between  two local men, the one with head injuries was treated at Nobles hospital and his condition not described as being life threatening.

The man suspected to be responsible was located and arrested later that morning, enquiries are ongoing.

Inspector Neil Craig says, “Whilst armed officers were deployed as part of our response, the incident was specific and contained between both of the men, who are understood to be known to each other. As a result of the information which is currently known, and from enquiries which have been undertaken so far, we are satisfied that no wider members of the public were in any danger”.

Enquiries are currently continuing in and around the area of Upper Dukes Road and an appeal is being made for anyone who may have been in or around the area at that time, particularly from anyone who may have vehicle dashcam footage, CCTV footage attached to their premises or doorbell footage that captured the incident itself.

Due to the ongoing nature of these enquiries no further information is able to be given at this time.

Anyone who has not already been spoken to by officers is asked to please make contact with the CID department at Police Headquarters on 631212 or alternatively information can be given anonymously via the Crimestoppers number of 0800 555 111.
