Medical negligence has cost the taxpayer almost £970,000 in the past five years.
A Freedom of Information request was submitted to the Department of Health and Social Care for the figures since 2012.
In its response, the department said the cost has been falling steadily - it paid out £669,437 in 2012, compared to just £11,000 in 2015.
But it also revealed it's paid £1.4 million in legal costs in the past five years.
