3 positions to go from Fire & Rescue Service

Three positions are to go in the Fire Rescue Service from April as part of budget cutbacks in the Department of Home Affairs.

The staff reductions have been found at management level and from the retained service.

This will save £221,000 in addition to the £266,000 saved last year.

As part of the changes, the Fire and Rescue headquarters will also relocate from Elm Tree House in Onchan to Homefield on Woodbourne Road in Douglas to share the existing facilities.

Presently, there’s no move to close any of the Island’s fire stations.

Speaking to 3FM, Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson said this restructuring wouldn’t affect the day-to-day service of Fire and Rescue.
