Toilet tax plans could be flushed for more equitable system

70 per cent of people who have to pay the sewerage charge could pay less than £100 under new proposals.

Plans are underway to scrap the so called "toilet tax" and replace it with a charge linked to a property's rateable value. 
 
Chairman of the Manx Utilities Authority Alf Cannan says the flat rate fee wasn't fair: 
 
 
The rate would be set at 62 pence in the pound - meaning properties with a higher rate value would pay more. 
 
Mr Cannan says it's not perfect but should make things more equitable:
