Cash injection to keep Sayle Gallery afloat

A further £19,000 has been agreed to keep The Sayle Gallery in Douglas running after crisis talks yesterday.

The Arts Council will shell out £14,000 for six months' rent on the unit in the Villa Marina Colonnade and £5,000 for an 'artist in residence'.

That's despite originally saying it was going to slash funding by 70 per cent from next March.

The Department of Education and Children, which allocates the council's budget, says it's been assured that the gallery will use the extra time to find a "suitable strategy for future funding".
