Rare penguin chicks born at Curraghs

Four rare penguin chicks have been born at Curraghs Wildlife Park.

The Humboldt penguins, are being reared by their parents in special nesting boxes before they are large enough to venture out solo.

In the wild the species is threatened by pollution, overfishing and habitat loss and is classed as vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

Keeper Bernie Cannan said 'We have four chicks and another two pairs are currently nesting which we hope will be successful."

The chicks range from two to six weeks and will be watched over by their parents for around three months.
