Ramsey Commissioners express opposition to out of town retail

The Government\'s stance in relation to Next plc\'s out of town store has been welcomed by the Ramsey Town Commissioners.

At their public meeting this month they say they were heartened that the retailers application for consent to the sale of children's wear in the store had been rejected.

The decision to block the sale was based on the planning consent for the store that restricted the range of goods which could be sold.

Commissioner Chairman Nigel Malpass said, establishing more out-of-town retail operations will have an Island wide detrimental effect.

He said the commissioners will continue to actively oppose any such further applications.
