Prorogation ruling will be ‘very influential’ in Manx courts

The UK Supreme Court’s decision to judge Boris Johnson’s shutdown of parliament as unlawful will be ‘very influential’ in Manx courts.

That’s according to professor of law at Oxford Brookes University, Peter Edge.

He says the ruling may open the door for the Island’s judiciary to challenge the ‘prerogative power’ invested by the monarch in the Lieutenant Governor, and the Privy Council, the highest court in the land.

Mr Edge also believes the judgement could pave the way towards a written constitution in the UK, which would see the Crown Dependencies’ status enshrined in law.
