Prison's £289,000 energy bill

The Island's prison spent just over £289,000 paying the bills last year.

A freedom of information request to the Department of Home Affairs asked how much the jail's electricity and gas bills had been.

In response, the department said gas cost £142,000 while electricity bills had come to more than £147,000.

The figures also showed salaries for prison staff came to a total of £4.3 million over the last 12 months.
