Parking charges are a "nail in the retail coffin"

Douglas Council says new parking charges in the capital are "another nail in the retail coffin".

It says it's totally opposed to plans to charge people to park on the walkway and to reduce the time limits on disc zone parking.
 
The Douglas Development Partnership is of a similar opinion - Michelle O'Malley is the town centre manager: 
 
 
Retailers have expressed concern that this could drive trade away from town in the Christmas trading period - concessions will now be introduced. 
 
Michelle says it's evident there is a lack of parking but charging for what we do have is detrimental:
