After a two-hour debate, the House of Keys has voted to look at changing the Island's abortion laws.
Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson won permission to introduce a private member's bill aimed at providing a termination service on the Island rather than forcing women to travel to the UK.
An attempt by Douglas East MHK Chris Robertshaw to have the proposals sent to a select committee was thrown out by the House.
Dr Allinson explained the current system forces Island women to seek private treatment, something many can't afford:
