'Major changes’ for Peel in draft area plan, says Commissioners

Peel Commissioners says there are ‘major changes’ to the draft Area Plan for the North and West following a consultation by the Cabinet Office.

One of these changes include changing agricultural land on the outskirts of Peel to ‘predominantly’ housing, and building a minimum of 1,253 new properties in this area, in addition to 400 proposed in 2022.

The commissioners also say there is ‘no long-term solution’ for the removal and processing of silt and instead two silt lagoons will be retained for the ‘foreseeable future.

There is also an increase on the minimum number of houses per hectare, in 2022 it was 19.5 but the Cabinet Office wants this increased to 160.

In the conservation area there is a new minimum of 45 houses per hectare and on greenfield sites, 35 properties per hectare.
