Joint committee secure long term future of Eastern civic amenity site

Douglas Borough Council will shoulder the majority of the sites operating costs, covering costs representative of 63%, the rest is decided proportionally.

The future of the Eastern civic amenity site has been secured following the efforts of a number of parties who have signed an agreement to form a joint committee.

The agreement, which came into force on July 1, 2011, provides the framework for the six local authorities to assume shared responsibility to manage the waste management site until December 2021.

Under the terms of the agreement the joint committee will serve as a policy-making and reviewing body responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the facility.

Douglas Borough Council will shoulder the majority of the sites operating expense, covering costs representative of 63%, the rest is decided proportionally.

In operating the site the Council has been able to make savings through the sale of materials.
