Island's renewable energy potential examined

The Isle of Man could soon be playing a major role in exporting offshore renewable energy to the UK.

The issue was discussed at a conference in Cumbria on Thursday to mark the opening of the world’s largest windfarm.

A senior delegation from Tynwald attended, including member for the DED Laurence Skelly.

While in Cumbria he met with the UK’s Energy secretary Ed Davey and discussed the Island’s huge potential as a supplier of clean power.

Mr Skelly said the talks went well and Mr Davey showed considerable interest in the Isle of Man’s capacity to generate renewable energy in its territorial waters.
