Covid report sheds light on the good and the bad of the Island's response

An independent report into the Island's handling of Covid has determined our approach was reasonable and successful, but with some issues.

Kate Brunner KC yesterday published a 3,600 page document that delves into every aspect of government's response to the global pandemic, and all of the associated fall out.

The report brands the Island's response as relatively successful, with a relatively low death rate, and a relatively low cost to the economy.

She commented on the Island's 'elimination policy' which was a rare approach for a Western country, but resulted in low fatality rates, as seen in New Zealand and Singapore who had adopted the same approach as the Island.

The tight border controls, contact tracing programme, vaccination roll-out, the testing programme and financial packages for local businesses were all singled out for praise.

However things like government's emergency planning was deemed inadequate, a lack of support for the social care sector and insufficient attention being paid to the borders were all found to be what let the Island down in their covid response.
