Meals for prisoners in Jurby have so far cost the taxpayer more than £150,000 this year.
The Home Affairs Minister confirmed the figure today after being questioned by Liberal Vannin’s Zach Hall.
He said the year-to-date cost was £151,419, but with around a £12,000 reduction if you take away food for vending machines and educational classes.
However, this is an improvement on last year when the overall tally came to £216,485.
The 2011-12 figures equate to an average price of £1.62 per prisoner per day including drinks.
