Contrasting reports on Thor Liberty

The deputy director of the island’s Ship Registry says his department has received no official news regarding the latest of the Manx-registered ship detained in Finland.

Speaking to 3FM, David Morter said the Registry’s position remained unchanged and as far as they’re concerned there was nothing wrong with the vessel’s labelling of its cargo.

The Thor Liberty was detained by Finnish authorities earlier this month after they claimed missiles and explosives were discovered in crates labelled as ‘fireworks’.

However, media reports this morning now claim that, although the Ukrainian crew have been allowed to leave, the captain and first mate have been detained in the country while investigations continue (see audio).
