Staff and students at King William's College are mourning the loss of the principal's wife.
The college has written to the school community to announce Francesca Humphreys passed away in the early hours of this morning.
She'd been battling illness for some time and was being cared for by family in Shrewsbury.
Mrs Humphreys moved to the Island when her husband Martin took over as principal at the college in Castletown in 2010.
In the letter acting principal Joss Buchanan said "In the fullness of time we will consider how we, as a community, will remember her and recognise her enormous contribution to College life."
