Cavendish wins stage 5 of Tour de France

Mark Cavendish has taken the fifth stage of the Tour de France following a frantic sprint finish.

It was a lively stage with crashes from Alberto Contador and Bradley Wiggins, Thor Hushovd finished 10th and retains the yellow jersey.

Cav timed his sprint perfectly setting himself up for his 16th stage victory in the Tour.

Thursday’s stage 6 is the longest stage of the 2011 Tour, and is also likely to be one of the fastest.

Todays win puts the Manxman into the top 10 Tour de France stage winners of all time.
