ATHOL STREET UPDATE: 22 year old local man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Man discovered earlier this morning with serious injuries, currently in Nobles receiving treatment

Police have confirmed that one person has been arrested following a serious incident on Athol Street this morning.

An as yet unidentified man was found on the road near to the junction of church street with serious injuries.

A 22-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The injured man is currently in Nobles Hospital receiving treatment for his injuries, as yet no further details about his condition are known.

Inspector Phil Shimmin spoke to 3FM at the scene, he said...

' The man was found with serious injuries, he was subsequently taken to Nobles where he is receiving treatment, about 35 minutes after the discovery of the male a 22 year old local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, he's being detained at Police Headquarters currently. '

  

The business quarters of the Isle of Man were cordoned off at around 7:30AM.

Cordons are still in place at Prospect Hill. On Hill Street to Upper Church St and Barrack Street is closed from Athol to Lord Street.
The Barrack Street junction with Lord Street and Shaw's Brow car park are now open. Also there is now access to the rear of most of the buildings on Athol Street but not via Upper Church Street.

They have apologised for the disruption this is causing and say the police are working hard to restore all access as soon as possible.
