Sugar tax to be brought in under UK agreement

A new sugar tax will be brought in as a shared duty under a Customs and Excise Agreement with the UK Government.

The Manx Treasury says this will keep costs for businesses and government to a 'minimum'. 
 
Earlier this week Tynwald approved plans to bring in a tax on sugary drinks - it's likely to come into place from April 2018.
 
Treasury Minister Alf Cannan explains how significant it could be for local businesses if the UK didn't share the duty:
