A Douglas man whose gambling business failed leaving two UK men out of pocket has been committed to the Court of General Gaol.
31-year-old Sean Speers appeared at Douglas Courthouse yesterday after previously pleading guilty to six charges of obtaining money transfers by deception.
He took £14,500 from the men between November 2012 and October 2013 as part of a bet laying service which he ran online.
The prosecution told the court the Crown didn't believe his online operation was a legitimate business from the outset and was set up as a "ruse" for his own gambling addiction.
However his advocate disputed this saying it was a business venture but it "fell to pieces" after he lost the money.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Mr Speers there were too many aggravating factors and as such her sentencing powers were insufficient.
He has been bailed until his next court appearance on October 10th.
