52 Year Old In Serious Condition After Almost Drowning
Dad Of Police Officer Who Came To The Rescue Speaks To 3FM
A man close to death was pulled out of the Sea in Douglas last night following the heroics of a Douglas Police officer, who has also found himself in hospital as a consequence. The father of PC Adam Hawkes, Tony, told 3FM how proud he is. (audio above)
The police were first alerted to the incident following a phone call saying a man was in the water by the Jubillee Clock on Lock Promenade.
Upon arriving at the scene the Police could see the as yet unnamed 52 year old Douglas man floating on his back, he was unresponsive to their initial calls.
As time was running out the decision was reached to allow Constable Adam Hawkes into the water to drag the drowning man onto a life raft, at this point he was turning blue and totally unresponsive.
The two males were then taken to Nobles suffering from Hypothermia, Constable Hawkes was discharged later on, the 52 year old is described as being in a serious but stable condition.
It's believed the male was somehow intoxicated and this is how he came to be in the water.
