Long Spell of Hot Dry Weather Needed for Best Swimming Conditions

Would you go for a swim off one of the Island's beaches?

They took a hit recently following a scathing review in the Marine Conservation Society Good Beach Guide, which deemed that only one of the Island's 18 beaches tested suitable for bathing.

The Island was deemed to have the worst beaches in a survey of the British Isles.

Derbyhaven was again the only beach in the Island to have been recommended for its water quality.

The number of beaches that failed to meet the mandatory water quality standard increased, from three in 2009 to five this year.

You can see a full list of the results  HERE

Following on from routine tests of the individual beaches carried out by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture there have been signs erected at each beach detailing the quality of the water.

Dr Phil Styles is the Environment Unit Protection Manager on the Island, he said the best time to swim in Manx Waters is following a spell of sunny dry weather.
