Court employee stole £98,000 from workplace

A government worker who stole almost £98,000 from the Isle of Man Courts of Justice has been told she's committed a "double breach of trust".

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday 49-year-old Katrina Surridge admitted three counts of theft from her workplace.

Between December 2014 and July this year she stole £97,770.50 of cash and cheques which were intended for government - she also stole £175 from the staff Christmas fund.

In addition the Ramsey woman admitted five charges of false accounting and one of falsifying records between the same dates.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Surridge - who worked in the fines office at the court - that she'd breached both her employer's trust and that of the public.

Surridge will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery - she will next appear before that court on Friday.
