'Be careful of con artists' says DOI

Cold callers are tricking people into handing over their cash.

There’s a new scam circulating the Island, which people should be wary of.

Fraudsters are cold calling households trying to trick the person at the other end of the line into giving them their bank details.

They are pretending to call from the Department of Infrastructure’s vehicle licensing team, offering an option to pay for road tax by direct debit.

Chief executive of the Office of Fair Trading Mike Ball says the department has nothing to do with the con and people should be vigilant:
